ALL ABOUT THOMPSON'S COUNTRY MARKET

Just after the depression, to make extra money "Grandpa" Robert Thompson Sr. started to grow Big Boy Tomato plants and sold them by the plant.   He grew them in clay pots and would break them out of the pots and sell them with roots in-tact.  He sold these plants out of his home from a greenhouse he built himself.  He passed his love of produce down to his son, Russell "Rusty" Thompson, Sr.  Rusty became known as the "Cantaloupe King" with the best cantaloupe in all of Kansas City.  He would sell cantaloupe out of a pickup truck he would park in Englewood Shopping Center.  He eventually grew to have three trucks in different markets and areas.   He then brought in his 14-year-old son at the time, Brian Thompson, to learn the trade.  Eventually he started his own business and appropriately named it Thompson's Country Market which has successfully provided the regions highest quality produce available for almost 30 years.
